Workforce Potential
Room to Grow: Tapping the After-School Workforce Potential, a new policy brief published by The After-School Corporation, makes the case for a new and better approach to professional development.
The report, defines the problem as a lack of access to professional training and recommends that steps be taken to better fashion a professional identity for after-school workers--proposing "that policymakers, educators and leaders in this field collaborate to build an after-school professional development system that will lay down career paths and support staff members in their current practice."
It goes on to recommend that "Informal training should be sequenced, credited and aligned to this larger professional development system so staff members who participate in on-the-job training are rewarded."
