Cake

Last night, I checked out the Artists Who Teach panel at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. More than sixty teaching artists packed the Dean's conference room and there was food, which should be mandatory at all such events.

As you might well expect, a number of wonderful and inspiring things were said. Among my favorites lines was one delivered by writer/performer Nilaja Sun, who, during a conversation about agents, reminded artists to "remember the value that is inside of you, not just financially, but otherwise."

Later on in the evening, Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Artistic Director of Youth Speaks, said "It is OK to build an infrastructure around the idea that you want to affect change in your community, rather than around the idea that I want to be famous."
